Last week, Italy High School students participated in Red Ribbon Week which is a week long drug prevention campaign geared at encouraging students to choose a drug free lifestyle, and to be a part of the ultimate goal, which is a drug free America.

Red Ribbon Week is the oldest and largest drug prevention program in the nation reaching millions of Americans during the last week of October. By wearing red ribbons and participating in school anti-drug events, IHS students pledge to live a drug-free life and pay tribute to DEA Special Agent Enriqué “Kiki” Camarena who gave his life while fighting the war on drugs on February 7, 1985.

The drug-free theme continued throughout the week with each day assigned a new slogan:

  • Monday — Proud to be drug free! Students dressed in red, white and blue.
  • Tuesday — Hide from Drugs! Students were elusive in their camouflage gear.
  • Wednesday — Put a cap on drugs! Students wore a variety of headwear.
  • Thursday — Sock it to drugs! Students wore crazy socks and shoes.
  • Friday — Red out drugs! Students opted to scare drugs away with most participants choosing to dress in their Halloween costumes.

Say, “No!” to drugs, or just say, “Boo!”
