New things are happening this year at Stafford Elementary

We are half way through the school year and things are going great at Stafford Elementary. We have a new principal this year and good things are happening.

I thought I would touch base with Jason Miller (principal) and get his thoughts on how he thought the school year was going and what some of the new programs are that he had started this school year.

When asked what some of the new programs he started this year were Mr. Miller replied, “A district wide initiative that was started this year is the use of CSCOPE. CSCOPE provides a quality curriculum support system for our schools to use and follow. In addition to the curriculum, CSCOPE encompasses resources for the implementation, monitors the curriculum and establishes an accountability process to ensure a quality implementation. The curriculum component of CSCOPE is based on best practice models from top researchers. Lessons are all aligned with the TEKS and each lesson meets the highest standards of rigor and relevance.”

He went on to say, “At Stafford this year we have implemented a school wide discipline behavior initiative using the acronym PAWS….Prepare yourself, Accept responsibility, Work toward excellence, Seek help when needed. When a student is identified for any given positive behavior that falls under a PAWS category they may be awarded with a PAWS Ticket. They are working toward going to lunch with me off campus.”

I asked Mr. Miller if the new programs were working out the way he expected them to and he said, “As with any goal you always want to be successful. We have seen so many of our Stafford Tigers grow academically and become socially mature. We want to continue to see the success so that we can continue to accomplish and create larger goals. With some new programs in place we hope to create an excitement for learning among our student body and staff by generating more enthusiasm for teaching and learning for all and by demonstrating to the students the rewards of being academically and socially successful. We have recently restarted the Stafford PTO so be on the look out for several opportunities for parents to be involved with some of our day to day planning and instruction.”
