Gladiator baseball is a go!
The Italy Gladiators baseball season has begun. The district opener is March 5 at home against Axtell. (Anne Sutherland)
Baseball season always begins with a little cold weather. However, die hard fans are ready for that with sleeping bags and blankets in the stands. The Italy Gladiators hosted their first exhibition game against Waxahachie Faith Family this past Thursday night.
The fans gathered in the stands, huddled together and drank hot chocolate from the concession stand and watched an exciting game. The final score was 18-5 with the Gladiators on top but the two teams were really just getting practice time on the field.
Senior, Kyle Jackson, opened the game pitching. Coach Josh Ward gave the other pitchers time on the mound as well.
March 5 is the date of the first district opener against Axtell and it will be at home. The JV game begins at 4:30 with the varsity game to follow.
