Real men wear pink
The Italy Gladiator Baseball team sponsored a fundraiser benefitting the Susan G Komen Foundation on Friday night at the Loyd Davidson Field in conjunction with the Lady Gladiator Pink-Out night held previously in March.
There were pink balloons, pink cupcakes, pink ribbons, pink sweat bands and pink t-shirts. Everything one would need to remember breast cancer research, survivors and memorials.
Birdie Bell and Karen Mathiowetz took donations at the gate for the foundation. Coach Josh Ward’s mom, Rhonda, threw out the first pitch to her son and the game was fast, furious and tons of fun. Hubbard got in on the fun and purchased pink t-shirts for their players as well.
The fundraiser included a ballgame against the Hubbard Jaguars. Not a district event, however, the games were played with skilled baseball players-on both sides of the field. It was very exciting and the use of officials made sure the boys were playing their best. The final score was Italy 23, Hubbard 13. The real winner is the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
