Italy High School sponsors hamburger fundraiser
The smell of delicious grilled hamburgers filled the air at the Italy High School ball fields on Tuesday night as local volunteers flipped patties, sliced onions and filled up to-go plates with burgers and all the fixings complete with chips, desserts and a drink. It was tasty and all for an economical price and a good cause.
Italy High School principal, Lee Joffre, organized this fundraiser to assist with a new College Readiness program he is starting this summer. The program will give students a leg-up when taking their SAT and ACT tests in the fall.
“We made $720.00 to help us purchase additional materials to help students prepare for SAT/ACT tests. We are considering different options that include the possibility of a Summer College Readiness Institute and/or different web based options that help prepare students under teacher and parent supervision,” Joffre said.
When asked what the future holds for next year’s seniors, Mr. Joffre explained, “We are looking forward to continue developing a school culture that encourages students to look at all post-high school options.”
“This event would not have been possible without a team effort between the teachers at Stafford and Italy HS and the numerous community and school board members that donated items or their time to help,” the Principal said.
All in all, it was successful because the burgers were awesome, the community came out and supported the school and our bellies got full.
