Italy — The Italy Gladiator summer league baseball team is off to a solid start after defeating the visiting Alvarado Indians 8-7 in game one with freshman Ryan Connor getting significant time on the mound for coaches Mark Jacinto, Vincent Jacinto and 2012 IHS grad Ross Stiles.

In game two, Caden Jacinto pitched the distance from atop the mound while his cousin Reid Jacinto had a masterful game behind the plate although primarily used as second baseman for Italy this past season.

Gunners Justin Wood, Marvin Cox, John Byers, Kevin Roldan and Maypearl’s Brett Pickard lead an offensive onslaught in game two that overwhelmed Alvarado’s defenses during the night cap. Wood’s 3RBI triple sealed the deal helping Italy cruise to a 10-0 victory.
