June Birthdays at Trinity Mission
Lots of cake and lots of ice cream for everyone at Trinity Mission—the June birthdays were celebrated with with lots of fun.
This month there were only two birthdays. Evelyn Jenkins (June 18th) and James Bell (June 19th) celebrated another birthday this month.
You may remember Evelyn Jenkins for her participation in the Ms. Stars and Stripes Pageant a couple years ago. She not only participated but she also won! The three categories they were judged on were inner beauty, talent and evening gowns. It is something that Evelyn says she will never forget.
James Bell celebrated his 89th birthday this month and when asked what some of his most memorable experiences in his life were, James said he remembers when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor. He was one of the four men who fought from the beginning to the end of the campaign to secure Iwo Jima. He said he had a rocket crash within 25 feet of his foxhole spraying sand on his face. Fortunately for him it was a dud. He said Japanese soldiers snuck up to his foxhole and fired at him and killed Marines all around him. One bullet tore through Bell’s helmet, the helmet saved his life. So, he is very happy to celebrate his birthday.
“We are celebrating summer time birthdays in Italy at Trinity Mission. Only two birthdays this month but we still had a good time with birthday cake and ice cream. We love to celebrate life at Trinity Mission. July’s birthdays are coming up with fire crackers and fun. Can’t wait!” Carolyn Powell (activities director) cheerfully said.
Another great birthday month at Trinity Mission. Happy Birthday!
