Myla Wilson named elementary principal
The Italy School Board of Trustees named Myla Wilson the Stafford Elementary principal Monday evening at a called meeting.
Barry Bassett, superintendent, recommended the hiring of Wilson. Cheryl Owen made the motion with a second from Russ Lewis to hire Wilson, a nine-year administrator at Desoto ISD. The motion passed unanimously.
Bassett said he is re-energized with Wilson’s passion, energy and knowledge of the curriculum. He said Wilson has a strong foundation of skills and has a lot to give this district.
Before coming to Italy, former principal Jason Miller worked with Wilson. He told Bassett that he learned everything he knew about administration from Wilson.
The new principal, a native of Lexington, Kentucky, attended college at Arkansas State University and obtained her Master’s Degree from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She taught school in Little Rock, Arkansas and Atlanta, Georgia. Wilson moved to the Dallas ISD after obtaining her administration certification.
Following the meeting, Wilson told the two dozen guests and elementary school teachers in attendance that she is excited and looking forward to getting to know everyone. She said she is excited to be here and start working with the students, faculty and community. She said, “We are going to do things big because things are bigger in Texas.”
Wilson has a six-year-old son, Eric.
