Kim Watkins-New Math Teacher in Italy
Coming from a Montessori Academy, Kim Watkins will be teaching her first year in the public school system at Italy ISD this fall. She will be the 7th grade Math teacher and is eager to take on the job.
IHS Principal, Lee Joffre, said, “Ms. Watkins will be a wonderful teacher for our junior high school students. She plans to use her experience to add an additional ‘hands-on’ element to our curriculum. I look forward to seeing the gains our junior high school students have with Ms. Watkins as their teacher.”
Originally from Wylie, Texas, Ms. Watkins graduated from Wylie High School, attended Trinity Valley Community College with a dance scholarship and received a Liberal Arts Associate degree. From there, she transferred to University of North Texas and graduated with a Bachelors of Science degree.
Watkins wants a positive spin on the junior high math program, “My main goal is to help build an engaged learning environment. I really want to see students be a part of the learning process.” Watkins wants a great attitude when the children come to class, “I want the class ready to be successful, ready to work-with all their materials, homework completed and a great attitude. I plan to spend some time getting to know my students and know what their needs and interests are. I want to make the learning experience an enjoyable one.”
Kim recently moved to Italy and is excited about the small town atmosphere. “It is really nice to be right around the corner from the school. I already love Italy,” Watkins explained.
Ms. Watkins will also be the sponsor for Junior High Cheerleaders. “I had the opportunity to meet a few of the Junior High ad High School Cheerleader’s parents at a planned meeting. I excited to work with the cheerleaders. I know they are excited and are ready to start practicing. We will have our first practice on Monday the 27th. Goals for the cheerleaders are to bring positive spirit and entertainment to all the games. I hope the Cheerleaders’ presence encourage Italy fans to be supportive and motivating towards our athletes.”
“I am very excited about this year. I am looking forward to getting to know this town and be a part of the Italy High School family,” Watkins explained.
Welcome to Italy, Ms. Watkins.
