Avalon Elementary ‘Student of the Month’
One of the new incentives principal Jody Tennery has put in place for the students at Avalon Elementary is “Student of the Month” recognition. Receiving the award this month is third grader Nathan Rankin.
The student is selected by his/her teacher and the qualities they are looking for are high academics, good behavior and the willingness to help others. Once a month a student will be selected from pre-K thru the fifth grade. As an award for being chosen as “Student of the Month” the student is given a $10.00 gift card and gets to eat pizza with their teacher and the principal.
Mrs. Munger (Nathan’s teacher) had this to say, “Nathan is an excellent reader, a very independent worker, always does his class work and his homework and is always polite and well mannered. He deserves to be ‘Student of the Month’.”
When asked what he hoped to achieve by having a “Student of the Month” Mr. Tennery replied, “I think this will be an incentive to the students to do better academically, promote good behavior and good citizenship. When the students heard about this they all wanted to know how they could be selected for the award and I am seeing the students really trying and that is what it is all about.”
Congratulations “Student of the Month” Nathan Rankin!
