After the Italy High School homecoming parade and a rousing downtown pep rally, everyone made their way to the school’s cafeteria to enjoy a great meal catered by Bubba’s of Ennis, with proceeds going to the annual George Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The bar-b-cue dinner fundraiser is held each year during homecoming and provides an additional opportunity for everyone to remember and support the Italy ISD George E. Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund and also to meet and talk to current scholarship recipients.

Former Italy ISD Superintendent George Scott started the scholarship in 1986 with his own money. His dream of helping Italy students attain a higher education after high school didn’t become a reality until after his death in l991. Since 1993, there have been 66 scholarships awarded with 11 of those currently active. Tax deductible donations to honor or memorialize loved ones are received continually.

George’s wife, Wanda Scott, was in attendance and visited with friends, kissed babies and offered guests a warm smile. Wanda’s daughter Diana Herrin and her husband John Herrin each had a plate of bar-b-que as well.

Thanks everyone and alumni for contributing to the spirit of Homecoming, the vision of George Scott and to graduates of Italy High School.

This year’s fundraising dinner earned over $5,800, Wow!
