Letter to the editor: Memorial at the IHS Flagpole

The events at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut bring to light just how vulnerable schools can be. As parents, Cassie and I send our kids to school with an expectation they are learning and they are safe.

This week, at Italy JH/HS, we will take time to remember the victims of the tragedy at Sandy Hook and practice safety procedures.

Tuesday our Student Council will lead us at a “Meeting at the Flag Pole” at 7:30 AM. Our students will be encouraged to wear green and white; the school colors for Sandy Hook Elementary. All community members are welcome to attend.

Thursday I will meet with each grade level to discuss our safety procedures. We will have two drills during the day to practice an emergency response.

As always, visitors are required to check in at the main entrance (Park Street) when they need to visit a teacher or to pick up their child during the school day.
