After almost ten years of service to Trinity Mission as the activities director Carolyn Powell is retiring. It will be a sad day at Trinity Mission. Her last day will be January 31st.

When asked what she wants to do when she is retired Carolyn replied, “I want to sit on the couch and giggle! Really, I want to be with my grandkids and travel with my husband to places we haven’t been before, before I am too old to do it. I wonder what it would be like to go to the movies in the afternoon? Now, I will have a chance to find out!”

Carolyn also said that once she gets settled into the ‘easy life’ she would like to go to children’s hospitals and convalescent centers and entertain the children and residents as a clown along with her dog. She loves children and the elderly, what would be a better fit?

Marie Wood (administrator) had this to say about Carolyn Powell retiring, “Carolyn has given so much to our residents and she has been such a vital part of our team. She is going to be missed. I am very proud for her to be able to retire and we want her to have fun but we don’t want her to forget us, we love her so very much.”

When I asked Carolyn if she wanted to say a few words about Trinity Mission she responded, “How do you say goodbye to family? Trinity Mission has been a wonderful place to work at for almost ten years. How many people get to come to work and get to laugh and play all day long? The residents became my family. I have had hundreds of grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles and even a cousin or two. We did exciting things such as the State Fair, Fall Festival, Nursing Home week and Senior Prom to mention a few.”

She went on to say, "The residents call me the “kid” and I am retiring! We have seen lots of administrators come and go but when Marie Wood leads the team it is truly home. I work with the best team and they watch your back. We are family, ‘sisters’, well OK, there are a few brothers too! I have had the best volunteers, Shirley, W.O., and Vivian. I appreciated all the churches that came to visit and give services and the little children from Stafford Elementary. I have enjoyed the last ten years and now I am on to the next part of my life. Thanks for the memories, I love you all."

You will be missed Carolyn Powell! Happy retirement!
