The war on the STAAR test is in full swing at Stafford Elementary. Nothing is going to keep Stafford students from doing their very best on this test. They will battle to the very end to get the best grades.

Melissa Bedard (counselor) said, “Stafford has recently benchnmarked fourth grade writing and fifth grade math and reading again in order to help us prepare for their STAAR tests that are coming up in about eight weeks. Soon we will be testing math and reading for grades third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade science. We are taking the information from our benchmarks and plotting a course to help all of our students be successful on the new STAAR assessment.”

The STAAR theme this year is STAAR Wars. The students will strike back and out do the test. Going along with the STAAR theme the teachers and staff held a student competition to help make a design for this STAAR Wars theme. The top three winners earned a free lunch from McDonald’s.

The winners were: Jesus Luna (3rd grade)
Karman Lawson (5th grade)
Anthony Chambers (4th grade)

Jesus Luna said "My picture is showing kids striking back with a saber. They are striking back at the test.

Karmank Lawson said, “I decided to make my characters look like stars. They are star fighting students striking out at the test.”

“They did such a good job in their designs, and it is fun to let the artwork be student driven,” explained Melissa Bedard.

Good job Stafford students and good luck on the STAAR test!
