San Antonio –A calf scramble was held Saturday, February 16 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. 4-H and FFA youth competed for $800 certificates to purchase breeding animals to exhibit in the 2014 San Antonio Junior Livestock Show. Twelve certificates were awarded that day to those who caught a calf!

Local youth, Brandon Connor and Tristan Smithwick were among the winners.

Smithwick is a junior at Italy High School. His hobbies include hanging out with friends! With his winnings he plans on purchasing a shorthorn calf.

Connor, a IHS freshman, stated that his hobbies include all sports and video games! With his winnings he plans on purchasing a red Brangus heifer.

In pursuit of its mission “Helping Youth Today So That Agriculture Can Grow Tomorrow,” the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has committed more than $123 million to youth education since 1984.
