Sample ballot – Ellis County Emergence Services District No. 3 Tax Increase

Because of the reduction in the Federal Budget (Sequester) all funding for Fire Department Grants have been drastically reduced. The Ellis County Emergency Service District No. 3 is calling for an increase in the fire district tax on May 11, 2013. The fire district tax rate has not increased since August 11, 1984…Almost 29 years ago.

The statutory limit set by the state is 10 cents per $100 valuation. Our current tax rate is set at 3 cents per $100 valuation.

The Ellis County ESD #3 does not plan to increase the tax rate more than 3 cents per $100 valuation. This increase would raise the tax on a house valued at $100,000 by only $30 per year.

The Ellis County ESD #3’s Five Year Plan

  • Replacement of protective clothing (Bunker Gear and Air Packs) for the Volunteer Firemen.
  • Purchase of a Tanker Truck. (This will reduce the ISO Rating for outlying residents and qualify more fire insurance companies to issue policies in those areas.)
  • Additional space for Fire Equipment or construct new facilities.
