Italy to host 1st annual Cinco de Mayo celebration

The City of Italy is hosting their 1st Annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration this Friday, May 3rd from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. All activities will be held in downtown Italy.

“We hope all our citizens will come out and have a great time,” said Mayor Frank Jackson. “We should have something for everyone this year.”

There will be lots of food including authentic Mexican cuisine, fried catfish, smoothies and homemade baked goods. There will also be music, door prizes and pinatas for the kids entertainment. Several vendors will sell their products. Booth spaces are available at no charge this year.

Highlights of this year’s celebration will be a salsa contest judged by members of the local fire department and a jalapeno eating contest. There is no entry fee for the contests and trophies will be awarded to the winners.

Italy ISD students were encouraged to enter the Cinco de Mayo essay contest. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in each category.
