Italy Lady Gladiator head coach, Wayne Rowe, along with his assistant coaches, Tina Richards, and, Michael Chambers, are proud to announce the 1A Region II District 12 All-District list for the 2013 softball season which honored a total of 9 Lady Gladiator players.

Italy High School senior and Tennessee Tech University commit, Alyssa Richards, was named the district’s Most Valuable Player and sophomore Jaclynn Lewis was named as the district’s Pitcher of the Year.

Italy’s Lady Gladiators (22-13-1) went undefeated in district while posting a 12-0 district record to claim the District Championship and an automatic Bi-District Championship. The Lady Gladiators then defeated Gorman in 2 games of a 3 game series to add the Area Championship to the trophy case as well. Italy’s quest for a state title ended abruptly this past weekend in Hillsboro with Bosqueville winning the last 2 games of a 3 game series during an emotional, hard fought Regional Quarterfinal matchup between both teams.

Italy will sorely miss their three seniors in Richards, Katie Byers and Morgan Cockerham who have certainly left their marks during their careers as Lady Gladiators. Junior Paige Westbrook will have to carry the leadership torch next season as the team’s lone senior. Westbrook was one of Italy’s top RBI hitters this season behind Richards.

In addition to Lewis, sophomores Madison Washington, Tara Wallis, Bailey Eubank, Kelsey Nelson and K’Breona Davis will be seasoned veterans while freshmen Britney Chambers, Hannah Washington, Lillie Perry, Ashlyn Jacinto and Cassidy Childers gained valuable experience as members of Italy’s varsity squad this season.
