Avalon Homecoming Set for June 8, 2013
AVALON – June 8, 2013 is the date for Avalon’s Biennial Homecoming at the beautifully renovated J. P. Griffith Gymnasium located on Hemphill Street in Avalon. The event is sponsored by the Avalon Ex-Students Association.
Registration begins at 10 AM at the gym. A barbecue lunch will be served at Noon. The cost is $10 per person, and all proceeds benefit the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department. All former students and teachers, former and current residents, and families are invited to attend. AHS classes of 1962 and 1963 will be honored this year. Memorabilia from high school years and Avalon’s history will be on display.
Avalon is located in one of the oldest historical areas of south Ellis County between Ennis and Italy on State Highway 34 and FM 55 crossroad. The small cotton-farming and cattle-raising community was founded in the year 1860.
Avalon School has been listed once again by the U.S. News and World Report magazine as one of the best high schools in the United States. Avalon is listed as receiving the Bronze Award in the April 23, 2013 on-line edition of the national publication. The school was also listed as a Bronze Award recipient in 2008, 2010, and 2012.
Whether Avalon is your hometown or not, don’t miss the homecoming. Everyone is welcome, so come and help the Avalon Volunteer Fire Department, and see all your old and new friends.
