Letter from Italy High School Principal regarding HB5

Good Morning.

This morning I called Governor Perry’s office. I spoke to one of his administrative assistants. The purpose was to request that he sign HB5 immediately.

HB 5 is the bill that decreases the number of tests required to graduate from 15 to 5. It also changes graduation plans to serve students through elective endorsements. The bill has been passed by both the House and the Senate.

The governor is not required to sign the bill. He can wait until June 16th and let the bill take affect on its own.

Any more delay of the process will delay the planning for the 2013 – 14 school year. In order for us to effectively plan we need to know the timeline of the implementation of the bill.

If you would like to respectfully encourage the immediate signing of the bill you may call (512) 463-2000. When I called, I gave the lady my name and told her the school with which I am associated.

I am sure the Governor would like to hear opposing opinions as well. My opinion is not political. I just need to build a school and I am waiting for him.

Thank you,
Lee V. Joffre
