Downtown Businesses and Police Department Victims of Vandalism

On Wednesday, July 3rd, 2013 at around 5:30am, The Italy Police Department discovered that someone had thrown pears at the department’s windows and doors. Several pears were found lying on the sidewalk in front of the police department. Officers were then notified by several other downtown merchants that they had received the same vandalism, also with pears.

The Italy Police Department has identified a possible location of where the pears were obtained from and have opened an active investigation for the criminal mischiefs. It appears that the incidents occurred in the early morning hours and in a relatively short time period. Total damages of all the affected businesses could range from $500 to$1500 which is a Class A misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $4000 and/or confinement in jail for a term not to exceed one year.

The City of Italy has a Juvenile Curfew Ordinance which will be enforced with zero tolerance to protect the safety of juveniles and prevent crime. The Juvenile curfew hours are:

  1. 11:00 p.m. on any Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday until 6:00 a.m. of the following day; and
  2. 12:01 a.m. until 6:00 a.m. on any Saturday or Sunday.
