Congratulations to Italy Baseball’s, Caden Jacinto, sr., on being selected to the 2013 Collin Street Bakery / Texas Sports Writers Association’s All-State Team as an Honorable Mention Shortstop.

Italy Baseball congratulates pitcher Caden Jacinto and shortstop Marvin Cox who were both recently named to the 2013 Collin Street Bakery / Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 1A all-state baseball team! Under the guidance of head coach Josh Ward and assistant coach Brian Coffman, Jacinto solidified an Italy pitching staff that carried the Gladiators to a district championship, a bi-district championship and an area championship before the team finished as regional quarterfinalists.

Jacinto finished his senior season as pitcher with a 2.39 ERA (Earned Run Average) while posting 7 wins. When not on the mound, Jacinto would perform at a high level as shortstop, often trading positions with Cox. On top of being named as the District 14-1A Defensive Player of the Year, Jacinto was an effective hitter as well, swatting his way to a .301 batting percentage with 17 RBI and 7 stolen bases. Jacinto recently signed with Mountain View Community College in Dallas to play baseball.

Already an all-state safety in football, Cox becomes an all-state performer in two sports this past school year with his fielding, pitching and hitting abilities in baseball. Athletic and skilled, Cox was versatile enough to play different base positions, as well as, being in the pitcher’s rotation. Cox’s primary position was at shortstop where he earned all-state recognition and finished with a .532 batting average, 26 RBI and 23 stolen bases. Named the District 14-1A Newcomer of the Year, Cox is expected to play football for Tyler Junior College in the fall.

Frost senior pitcher Jacob Stroder, who handed Italy their only district loss to start the season, was also named to this year’s all-state team on top of being a Golden Circle first-team player and the District 14-1A Player of the Year.
