Maggie Westrick is Stafford Elementary’s new fifth and sixth grade science teacher. She hopes to bring her love of science to her students, get them excited about science and have fun with it as they learn.

Maggie said she always wanted to be a teacher, just not a science teacher. While she was growing up she was the kid you’ve heard about that lined up their stuffed animals and played school all day. She always knew she was going to teach but it wasn’t until her student teaching that she knew she wanted to teach science. While student teaching she learned how fun science could be and that is what she wants to bring to her classroom.

She did her student teaching at Grapevine-Colleyville ISD at Dove Elementary teaching kindergarten and fifth grade. She did her first year of teaching at Carrolton-Farmers Branch ISD teaching kindergarten.

When asked if she had any aspirations of going into the administration side of education Westrick replied, “No, I love teaching. I love the interaction with my students. I could see maybe one day going back to school to be a school counselor but way down the road.”

She graduated from the University of North Texas with her teaching degree.

Maggie just got married last November to her husband Benjamin. They were residing in Irving and decided to move to Red Oak so she is really excited about teaching at Stafford Elementary.

When she is not teaching you can find her and her husband boating, kyaking, camping or anything outdoors. And of course every girl’s favorite thing to do — shopping!

When asked what her objective was for her student’s this year she said, “I want them to gain the knowledge of science and high achievement for all students. I want them to show their creativity and most of all I want them to be excited about science.”

She went on to say, “I look forward to meeting everyone at Stafford. I am happy to be a ‘Stafford Tiger’ and am really excited about meeting the students and for school to start.”
