Terri Morton did not always want to be a teacher. She went to school and became a paralegal. She thought that was what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, only to find out she really wanted to be a teacher the whole time — she just didn’t know it.

It took getting laid off from her job as a paralegal before Terri Morgan knew what she really wanted to do in the working world. She decided to go back to school and get her teaching degree. “It was the best thing I ever did. I love teaching, I love the kids, I just love what I am doing. Best decision I ever made.”

Terri received her teaching degree from Western Governors University. She taught three years at Waxhachie School District as an aide for kindergarten through the fifth grade. Now she will be teaching first grade for Avalon Elementary and is so excited about it. “I am so excited about teaching at Avalon Elementary. I had always heard it was a very good district. I was hired two and a half weeks ago and have been on cloud nine ever since!,” explained Morton.

When asked how she felt about teaching first grade, Terri replied, “I love the students at this age. They are so cute, lovable, they hang on your every word and they are so eager to learn.”

I asked Terri what her goal was for her students and she replied, “I want the students to have a love of learning. They always learn better if they want to learn. I really hope to instill the love of learning so it will follow them for the rest of their school years and the rest of their life.”

She went on to say, “I like doing what I enjoy and teaching is what I enjoy. These kids are our future and it is very important to me that they learn as much as they can. Not only scholastically but I want to teach them responsibility, good manners and the respect of others.”

Terri and her husband of eight years, Trae Morton, have two boys Landen and Logan. Both boys will be attending Avalon Elementary. Landen will be in first grade and Logan will be in Pre-K.

A great addition to Avalon Elementary. Welcome Terri Morton!
