Have you ever known anyone that just knew what they wanted to be when they grew up and then did it? Well, Dionne Sauers is one of those lucky people. She always knew that she wanted to be a teacher and so she became one.

She was born and raised on a farm in Bardwell and graduated from Ennis High School where she played in the band and also was a baton twirler. To complete her education she went on to Navarro College and received her associates degree in speech and communication and received her education certification from Tarleton State University. While she attended Tarleton State she was in the Phi Beta Kappa Society. The Phi Beta Kappa Society is considered to be the most prestigious academic honor society in the United States.

Sauers taught sixth grade through twelfth grade for five years at Blooming Grove ISD. She left the teaching field to start a family and was a “stay at home” mom. “I taught at Mother’s Day out twice a week and just loved it, just had to keep my feet wet!,” she explained.

With all the kiddos in school, she decided to go back to teaching and was very excited when she was hired at Avalon Elementary where she would be teaching first grade. “I am so exited to be teaching first grade. I am looking forward to teaching younger students,” Sauers explained.

Her goal for her students is of course to have the skills that they need to move up to the next grade. She explained, “I also want to teach them how to treat others, to instill in them the knowledge that they can accomplish their goals. I want them to strive to reach their goals and to not let anyone discourage them or stop them. I also want to teach them the importance of living a Christian life.”

When asked what she thought about Avalon Elementary, Sauers replied, “I love that our football field is in a cotton field and there is a cotton gin across the street from where I work. Avalon is a school community and the people at Avalon Elementary are concerned about not only education but they are concerned about each and every child. I absolutely love Avalon ISD. I love the staff. There is wonderful leadership and administration starting from the top with Dr. Del Bosque and on down the line of teachers and staff members.”

She went on to say, “My grandmother Gether Davis Farmer graduated from Avalon ISD in 1932. And my brother Gary graduated from Avalon ISD in 1972. His was the first graduating class that were allowed to design their own class ring.”

Dionne and her husband Monte of nineteen years have four daughters, Katie who graduated from Ennis High School, Laney an eight grader, Bailey a sixth grader and Anna Becky a second grader all of whom are attending Avalon ISD.

In her spare time Dionne and her family enjoy fishing, going to the rodeo and outdoor activities. They also own mules and Dionne and her girls enjoy riding the mules together.
