The Italy High School science lab has seen several changes in the last few years, but none can compare to the new lab tables that they received over the summer.

“The old tables were bolted to the floor, so we were limited to what we could do, “said Lindsey Thompson, 7th and 8th grade science teacher. “The new tables are movable so we are able to do things that were not possible before.”

Unlike before, the tables can be moved to set up ramps to discover the speed of a ball. Many other experiments can be accomplished now that the tables can be moved to give the students more room. They can also move the tables to facilitate work in small groups. Mrs. Thompson researched the tables and passed the information to administration.

Mrs. Thompson always wanted to be a teacher. This is her second year to teach science in Italy. She graduated from University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelor of Science degree with a minor in Earth Science. She also has a degree in Interpretation.

Thompson loves to take trips and look for fossils. On the shelves in her room, she has things she has found on display for her students including fossils, animal skulls and scorpions. She believes that “hands on” learning helps the students and can make science interesting and fun.

“I have always had a love for learning and a love for science.” Thompson said. “In education, science sometimes gets put on the back burner, but I want our students to learn all aspects of science and hopefully instill in them a love for science.”

Lindsey grew up in Waxahachie and graduated from Waxahachie High School. She and her husband, Craig, live in Ellis County with their seven year old daughter, Madison.
