Bobby Campbell teaches life lessons to his students
Bobby Campbell is enjoying his first year on staff at Italy High School. In addition to teaching technology, health and leadership, he is also an assistant football coach, head power lifting coach and head track coach. Prior to coming to Italy, he was a teacher/coach for five years in Itasca, two years in Fairfield, eight years in McGregor and eight years in Temple.
“I believe one of the most important things I can teach my students and athletes is life lessons, how to be productive in society when they leave IHS,” he said. “I want them to know that the ups and downs in sports can prepare them for the ups and downs in life.”
Campbell believes that sports can be an important tool to teach the kids how to overcome adversity in life. He wants to teach his athletes to have a positive attitude, self discipline and a good work ethic. He believes that hard work and a good work ethic can help anyone overcome adversity.
“I am a strong disciplinarian,” he explained. “This is both on the field and in the classroom. I want the kids to know what I expect every time they are on the field or in the classroom. But, I also want them to know I am here or them, even after they graduate from Italy High School. I still have contact with several of my past students. They know they can count on me to be there if they need advice or just someone that will listen.”
Coach Campbell wants to be a good role model for the students. He tries to show them that they can follow their dream and achieve their goals through dedication and hard work. He said his greatest accomplishment, other than becoming a father, was becoming a coach and teacher.
After graduating from Moody High school, he attended McMurray University in Abilene where he received his bachelor’s degree in education. He enjoys spending quality time with his wife, Lois and their children, Markisha, Markell, Ashton, Tamarcus, and Tristen. He likes to lift weights, bowl and skate when time permits.
