Italy Junior High inducts students to the NJHS
Sixteen Italy Junior High students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)Tuesday night during a student led ceremony at the high school.
The NJHS is one of the nation’s premier organizations established to recognize outstanding students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship. NJHS not only recognizes students for their accomplishments, but challenges them to develop further through active involvement in school activities and community service.
“The National Junior Honor Society is a great way for our students to learn to serve our community while demonstrating academic leadership,” said Italy High School Principal, Lee Joffre. “I am proud of these sixteen students. They represent our school very well.”
The members are required to perform 20 hours of community service. Sponsor, Casey Holden, stated that they have two special projects scheduled. They will work a USO dance at the Senior Citizen Center in Waxahachie the weekend before Veterans’ Day. Also, in conjuction with the Senior Center, they will help wrap packages and deliver them to the Meals on Wheels recipients in this area during the Christmas holidays.
“I am very excited about working with this group of young people this year,” Holden said. “I hope that the standards that are set by NJHS will help them to grow into productive citizens in the future.”
