Snowmen galore at Stafford Elementary
Perri Patterson (1st grade teacher) came up with a great idea to help students spend some quality time with their families. She called her idea the Snow People Family Project and it was only for first graders.
She sent the students home with three paper plates and asked the parents and the students to take a little time to create and decorate a snow person out of the three paper plates. The plates could be stapled or glued together or attached by brads. You were not to buy anything to decorate them with you were to use things you found around the house like bottle tops, toilet paper tubes, loose buttons, newspaper etc.
Well, you should see all the creativity these little first graders displayed while creating their snow persons, it was unblievable! There were snowmen with tutus, snowmen dressed in Italy Gladiator spirit, snowmen made of cotton balls and glitter and lots, lots more.
Miss Patterson said, “This was a project designed for students to do with their families. They were only allowed to us things they could find around the house. This idea came after we finished studying about recycling. It also was teaching students to follow directions. The student council judged the snowmen on these categories : Best Dressed, Greenest , Most Traditional, Most Decorated, Most Colorful, Most Cultural, Most Christmas Spirit, Happies Snow Person, Best Variety, Most Creative, Looks Like ‘Frosty’, Best Hair and most Santa-like.”
The winners were: Best Dressed – Levi Joffre; Greenest – Hannah Scott; Most Traditional – Tiarah James; Most Decorated – Rachel Wolfensberger; Most Colorful – Curtis Benson; Most Cultural – Gared Wood; Most Christmas Spirit – Lily Hugghins; Happiest – Maddox Dickerson; Best Variety – Sophia Hernandez; Most Creative – Cohen Hodge and Dixie Brady; Frosty-like – Caleb Hyles; Best Hair – Jordan Posey and most Santa-like – Jamil Bueno.
Congratulations First Graders- you did a terrific job!
