Jackie D. Cate became the newest member of the Italy Economic Development Corporation after Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator, administered the Oath of Office Tuesday evening at the group’s monthly meeting.

During the business session, officers were elected.

Elmerine Bell, vice president, has presided over recent meetings following the resignation of Mark Stiles, president. She nominated Charles Hyles as president with a second from Joyce Hobbs. Bell also nominated Darrell Rosemond as vice president with a second from Hyles. Cate was elected secretary with a nomination from Hyles and a second from Rosemond. All three motions passed unanimously.

The other item of business concerned a fence being installed for the walking trail at Upchurch Field.

Hyles had two bids for the fence installation. The group chose to go with Bob Martin Fencing with an estimate of $5,170. Hyles said the funds have already been allotted for the project.

Hyles also said park benches have been ordered for the walking trail.

During financial reports, Murdock said tax revenues are up 11.86% over last year and said the group accrued $25,121.05 for the fiscal year. Financial balances are: operating budget, $101.62; money market, $112,117.40; bond expenditures, $2,157.05; bank debt service, $17,904.39; and escrow, $37,276.06.

Murdock, briefly outlined a bicycle tour on May 10, sponsored by the Cedar Hill Rotary Club. She said they expected about 400 cyclists to ride to and through Italy. She said the local pavilion will be a rest stop for the riders.

Prior to adjournment, Bell said she has enjoyed serving as vice president for the group and said she looked forward to the completion of the walking trail projects and getting the pavilion dressed up.

Rosemond said he found a business in Ennis that can construct a sign for the pavilion.
