EDC unanimously voted to purchase City Seal for Pavilion
During the regular meeting of the Italy Economic Development Corporation Monday night Charles Hyles (president) reported on the progress of the walking trail at Upchurch Ball Fields. He said the sand volleyball court is now ready to be put in. The sand has arrived and was donated by Jarod Mandrell. Hyles also reported there is $2,925.00 left in the walking trail fund.
Hyles and the committee members discussed lighting for the walking trails. Hyles said that if we name the entrance to the Upchurch Ball Fields and make it a right of way, Oncor Electric will put up lights for the walking trails for free. Hyles asked that this be put on the agenda for the next city council meeting.
Last meeting Hyles reported that a wind screen would be required on part of the fence to block the view of the walking trail from the batter’s box. Last night he reported that the wind screen was donated and would be put up in the next few days.
The City Administrator reported there is $2,157.00 left in the pavilion fund.
Hyles also reported that they received 70 trees (Oaks and flowering trees) from the Arbor Day Foundation. They need to be nurtured a little longer and then will be planted.
The committee discussed ordering a City Seal for the Pavilion for $438.68. They discussed having it powder coated since it was a metal sign to prevent it from rusting. The committee unanimously voted to purchase the sign. Darrell Rosemond will be getting quotes for the powder coating on the sign.
Pursuing a matching grant through Texas Parks and Wildlife for playground equipment at the Upchurch Ball Fields was discussed by the committee. They unanimously voted to get a $30,000 matching grant for playground equipment. Hyles said this would pay for a ‘Getzendaner Park like’ playground equipment and picnic tables. They will also be able to get a swing set, washer pits, BBQ pits and maybe a half court size basket ball court.
Terri Murdock reported $38,329.77 of sales tax has been collected up to date.
Board members present were Charles Hyles, Elmerine Bell, Darrell Rosemond and Jackie Cate. Randy Boyd, Tom Little and Joyce Hobbs were not in attendance.
