Avalon — Unstable pitching from the Avalon Lady Eagles allowed Italy’s offense to walk the walk as the Lady Gladiators cruised to a 20-1 victory, improving to 1-2 in district play.

There were a few hits along the way with Madison Washington and Jaclynn Lewis both recording doubles and slap hitters Bailey Eubank and Britney Chambers hit onto base but mostly one Lady Gladiator was walked one after another, with a few players being clipped by pitches.

Once on base, solid base running by Cassidy Childers, Madison Washington, Hannah Washington, Lizzy Garcia, Eubank, Chambers and Brooke DeBorde ensured Italy’s victory.

Defensively, junior pitching ace Jaclynn Lewis proved too challenging for the Lady Eagle batters who finally managed a late run to avoid being shutout. With Lewis back in place on the mound, hopefully Italy will settle back in as they make their push throughout the remainder of district play.

First-baseman Hannah Washington, in place of Eubank, made a nice play on a grounder and then tagged the base for an out with Italy’s younger players playing a major roll in this one.

Next up will be a rematch against Itasca starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 4th in Italy which will have district implications. Let’s all be there to cheer on our ladies!

Go Lady Gladiators!
