Thoughts on our upcoming elections

I felt like I needed to write something about our upcoming election and the turmoil that surrounds our city government. I didn’t quite know what to say, until my brother in law, Gary Clark, brought a quote to our staff meeting.

“What I am suggesting is that each of us turn from the negativism that permeates our society and look for the remarkable good among those with whom we associate, that we speak of one another’s virtues more than we speak of one another’s faults, that optimism replace pessimism, that our faith exceed our fears. When I was a young man and was prone to speak critically, my father would say: ‘Cynics do not contribute, skeptics do not create, doubters do not achieve.’” – Gordon B. Hinckley

Powerful words. I hope that we as citizens and leaders can try and promote the more positive aspects of our city and stop the bickering. We have a beautiful town that I plan on living in, sending my kids to school in, and continuing to make it my home in for many years. Help us and the Neotribune continue to promote the good things that we have.

Thanks,
Mike South
