First Baptist Church of Italy honored the 2014 senior graduates of Italy High School with a luau, complete with wonderful food and games.

Pastor and Mrs. Ronnie Dabney helped host the shindig with other members of the congregation. They include Chief Donald and Kay Chambers, Clover Stiles, Ronda Cockerham, Mr. and Mrs. Larry Norcross, Tina Buck, DeeDee Hamilton, Chase Hamilton, Ty Hamilton, Elaine Richards and Mr. and Mrs. John Goodman. Ms Birdie Bell even helped with gracing each participant with a hawaiian lei.

The traditional hawaiian games of “Standing on a Rock,” Volcano Rock bowling and Limbo were played. The groups divided into a girls team and a boys team and, according to the judges, the boys won one and the girls won one in the first two games. However, when it comes to Limbo, looks like the girls took the challenge and won. Kendra Copeland won hands down.

Sandy Dabney said, “First Baptist Church has been sponsoring this event since the Class of ’91, which is 23 years. We have been hosting the luau all this time and only changed it one time-to an international theme, where the kids went around the world to eat their meal. It turned out, the kids had more fun with the luau than any other. So, we have kept the tradition and they (seniors) really enjoy it.”

The group ate roasted chicken and sausage, homemade mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, baked beans, homemade rolls and plenty fresh fruit and desserts to choose from.

After the party, this group loaded up the school bus with 4 senior sponsors (Campbell, Williams, Bradley and Godwin) and headed to Lake Whitney to have a two day camping event.
