IYAA Basketball enjoys final weeks of competition

Italy — The Italy Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) welcomed teams from Whitney, Clifton and West into George E. Scott Coliseum for three games of exciting youth basketball.

Italy Boys (5th-6th Grade):
The IYAA 5th-6th grade boys pulled off the only win for Italy on Saturday with a 30-19 win over Whitney. Point guard Cort Holley was masterful running the show for Italy while scoring 8-points.

Reece Janek and Gage Wafer each scored 8-points as well. Center Andrew Celis scored 4-points, including going a perfect 2-out of-2 from the free throw line, and Bryce DeBorde added a jumper for 2-points.

Rocklin Ginnett and Creighton Hyles were vital in the rebounding department while Chase Hyles, Joe Jackson and Darren Jackson helped move the ball.

Italy Girls (5th-6th Grade):
The IYAA 5th-6th grade girls took on a towering West squad with Italy’s Emily Janek entrusted as the point guard. Italy’s Kaylie Stiles Smith went 1-of-4 from the line for a team-high 1-point. Valerie Stiles-Smith also helped push the ball up the court along with Karen Cortez.

Brianna Hall and Alyssa Wiser battled on the boards with help defensive help from Brooklyn Steinmetz and Kaitlyn Wims.

Italy Boys (1st-2nd Grade):
The IYAA 1st-2nd grade boys team took on Clifton with Italy point guard Levi Joffre handling the scoring duties for Italy with 4-points, including a long-range jumper from the right wing.

Also displaying his dribbling skills was Caleb Hyles who played tough man-to-man defense to deny Clifton a scoring opportunity. Cory Johnson was a quick moving, eyes up dribbler and Ramzi Holt was tough on the boards with
