Jaclynn Lewis of Italy High School was one of 13 high school seniors from Ellis County recognized at the Rebecca Boyce Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution Patriot’s Tea held on Sunday, February 8, 2015.

The Good Citizens Committee introduced each senior and highlighted their attributes. Each senior received a DAR Good Citizen’s Pin. The pin has 13 stars representing the 13 original colonies. The band of blue just inside the stars identifies it with our society. Four books are centered which are labeled dependability, service, leadership and patriotism which suggest school days. These are the qualities emphasized by the DAR. A Laurel Wreath of Honor circles the books with a Torch of Understanding behind the books.

Jaclynn has been a part of Student Council, National Honor Society, FFA, Varsity Volleyball, Softball, Basketball, and FCCLA. She has held offices in student council, FFA, and National Honor Society. Lewis has also served as her class president for her high school career. Lewis has received Academic All-District in all sports in which she has participated.

Jaclynn, daughter of Kelly and Russ Lewis of Italy, plans to attend Texas Lutheran University after graduation and major in Environmental Engineering. She has received academic scholarships there and was also recruited to play for their division three softball team.

Lee Joffre, high school principal, said, “Jac provides an excellent example of the character we expect from students at Italy High School. During the last four years she has demonstrated strong values and integrity while representing Italy High School in the classroom, on the softball field, volleyball court, basketball court, and while representing FFA, Student Council and National Honors Society.”

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a non-profit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education for children.

DAR members volunteer more than 250,000 hours annually to veteran patients, award thousands of dollars in scholarships and financial aid each year to students, and support schools for underserved children with annual donations exceeding one million dollars.

As one of the most inclusive genealogical societies in the country, DAR boasts 177,000 members in 3,000 chapters across the United States and internationally. Any woman 18 years or older-regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background-who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution, is eligible for membership.
