The Italy Lady Gladiators find themselves in first place, one game ahead of last year’s district champion Frost. Tuesday they traveled to Covington to complete the first round of district games. The Lady Gladiators remain undefeated in district.

The Lady Gladiators are ranked 7th in state in the last rankings by the TGCA. The newest rankings were not available at press time. Their season includes a first place tournament finish in Woodsboro, a third place finish at the Brentwood Classic in Austin plus wins over 3AAA Whitney and 4AAAA Celina.

The Ladies are led in the circle by senior Jaclynn Lewis, whose 10 wins are on the leaderboard at Maxpreps. Freshman Jenna Holden also has 4 wins this season against only 2 losses. Leading offensively according to Maxpreps are Jac Lewis, hitting .500 with 5 home runs and 25 RBIs, Madison Washington hitting .458 and 13 RBIs, Bailey Eubank (.452) 15 runs scored, and April Lusk (.447) and is among the state 2AA leaders in stolen bases with a perfect 19 for 19 attempts.

The Italy nine will be at home Friday against the second place team Frost in a battle for district. Game time is 5:30.
