PROGRAM OVERVIEW

The Italy Police Department Youth Police Academy is modeled after the Citizens Police Academy and is designed to give young people the opportunity to learn about the department and its operations and to demonstrate the benefits of law enforcement and community policing in our city. The goal of this program is two-fold:

  • To create a positive relationship between the youth of our community and the law enforcement profession; and
  • To establish understanding of the mutual challenges that face today’s youth and the law enforcement profession; and

There will be four classes held featuring different activities – from a certified canine, hand-cuffing, ECSO Sheriff’s Explorer Program, scenario based traffic stops, etc. Students will also have an opportunity to ride in a patrol car with a police officer.

FEES

There is no cost to participate in the Youth Police Academy.

COURSE DATES AND LOCATION

The youth police academy will begin on Thursday March 24, 2016 and end on Friday, April 15, 2016. Classes will be held each week from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Italy City Hall, located at 161 W. Main Street.

SIGN UP SHEETS / PERMISSION SLIPS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO PICK UP AT THE ITALY CITY HALL OR AT ITALY HIGH SCHOOL.
