The 3rd Annual Italy Christmas Festival came and went without a hitch. Well, almost without a hitch suggested Ronda Cockerham.

Saturday morning, Main Street was lined with cars, happy people and at least 30 vendors for the Italy festival and parade. The city of Italy was delighted to host the event, which included bands, prizes and all kinds of food to eat, not to mention just plain ol’ fun.

The community came together and gave the festival that “old time, home town feeling,” according to Cockerham, City Hall parade volunteer. “It was fun working with everybody and it was exciting to see all the floats and rides in the parade. Sherriff Johnny Brown was involved, as well as Texas Senator Brian Birdwell. Senator Birdwell acted as Grand Marshall for the parade.” Mayor Frankie Jackson gave the key to the city to him after the parade.

“We really appreciate the people and businesses in this town for all the donations and help that came through. It was giving back to the community. We pulled together and worked together.” Cockerham also stated that it was worth all the hard work to see the faces on the children when the prizes were given."

Of course, there was buzzing from the neighborhoods when our friend from the North Pole came riding through the streets. Just good ol’ fashioned fun.
