The Italy Planning and Zoning Commission held two public hearings and approved two requests – a zoning change and a specific use permit at a meeting Monday evening.

Notice is hereby given that a Public Hearing will be held by the Planning and Zoning Commission on Monday, April 22, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. and a second Hearing by the Italy City Council on Monday, May 13, 2013 at 6:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building, located at 105 W. Main Street, Italy, Texas, to consider a request from Hanna Braden with Asset Metal Recovery for a Specific Use Permit for a scrap metal processing center at 320 N. Hwy 77.

The Italy Planning and Zoning Commission approved a request from William Ward to re-plat PID #185648 on Ward Street.

The Italy Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously approved a request from Josh Trees to permanently zone 617 Mosley Street from Single Family Residential District 2 (SF 2) to Light Industrial (LI) at a meeting called Monday evening before the regularly scheduled city council meeting.

Travis approximately 0.139 acres on E. Travis, Italy, Texas, according to the plat recorded in volume 01039, Pages 1075. deed of records, Ellis County, Texas.

The Planning and Zoning meeting began with roll call. Jimmy Hyles, Frances Kirby Allen and Joan Grabowski were present. After much discussion it was decided to approve the zoning change with a special use permit.

Italy needs to decide if they want businesses in town or just certain homes. The last P & Z meeting illustrates the point. Today, if a business person wants to open a facility in Italy they have to beg. It looked like that might change in the last P & Z meeting, right up until someone says we must add the phrase with special use permit.

The Italy Planning and Zoning Commission met Thursday evening, and approved three zoning changes regarding property along Hwy. 77.
