From the publisher: What is really going on at Italy City Hall?

As publisher of the Italy Neotribune I have watched, generally from afar, the operation of the City Government of Italy. It has been a wonder to behold. We have a new mayor that would like to make some changes. Changes are always tough and he is getting a lot of push back. Obviously being Mayor is new to him and he is making many people in the administration upset. There is often two sides to most questions and here are some of my observations.

The Italy City Council will have their regular monthly meeting on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 6:00pm. The meeting will be held in the Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy. Among the regular reports the agenda slates an item to consider renaming Couch Avenue as well as consideration for an upcoming mayoral and city council seat elections.

City prepares for annual Christmas festival

The City of Italy is still seeking donations and volunteers for its Fifth Annual Christmas Festival and Parade scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 1, according to Mayor Frank Jackson. He made the announcement at the city council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening in council chambers.

Escamilla and Riddle named volunteers of the year

Mayor Frank Jackson and the Italy City Council named Misty Escamilla and Michele Riddle co-recipients of the Volunteers of the Year Award for the Italy Youth Athletic Association. The presentation was made at the council’s annual IYAA proclamation reception Monday evening in council chambers.

The Italy City Council will have two meetings on Monday, October 15, 2012. The first meeting, a proclamation reception to honor the IYAA volunteer of the year, will begin at 6:00pm. The second meeting, the council’s regular monthly meeting, will begin at 6:30pm. Both meetings will be held in the Italy Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street, Italy.

The Italy City Council will have a called meeting on Monday, September 17, 2012. The meeting will be held in the Italy Municipal Building’s Council Chambers at 105 West Main Street in downtown Italy. The meeting will begin with a public hearing regarding the city’s proposed 2012-2013 annual operating budget and will continue on with several agenda items pertaining to the budgets, tax rates and personnel policies.

The Italy City Council will meet today, Monday, May 14 at 6:30pm in the Council Chambers of the Italy Municipal Building, 105 West Main Street, Italy. The council has a full agenda tonight that includes a presentation to the DCI Scholarship winner, proclamations regarding National Police Week and National Nursing Home Week.

City council provides debris dump for resident

The City of Italy is allowing citizens to dump unwanted junk and tree limbs near the sewer plant on Tuesday and Thursdays, according to Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator. The announcement came at the council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening.

Meeting time is 6:30. The agenda slates six Regular Session agenda items and one Closed Session agenda item. The meeting is open to the public.

Packets due by March 5 for local elections

Residents planning on running for the Italy City Council or Italy School Board of Trustees must turn in a completed packet before 5 p.m. on Monday, March 5, to either city hall or the school administration building, respectively. Elections will be held May 12 from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Three city council seats up for May election

Three council seats are up for election, according to Teri Murdock, city secretary/administrator, at the Italy City Council’s monthly meeting held Monday evening. Those seats are currently held by James Hobbs, Dennis Perkins Jr. and Bruce Utley.
