The Italy City Council will have a special meeting on Tuesday, May 25th at 8:00am. The purpose of this meeting is to travel to Haskell, Texas to visit a Detention Facility. In a recent City Council meeting a detention facility was proposed for Italy.

The agenda reads that there will be a discussion with Kent Bratcher, Gary McKibben and Mr. Parkey regarding a commercial development proposal with the City of Italy. October 14, 2009 has been declared by the mayor of Italy to be Italy Youth Athletic Association (IYAA) Day. Mayor Frank Jackson also presented the first Volunteer of Year Award for IYAA to local parent, Barry Byers, on Monday night in a special session before the regular council meeting.
The Italy City Council approved an ordinance Monday evening changing the school speed limit to 20 mph between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. when school is in session.

What a surprise, what a big surprise to get this letter from Joe Grubbs, county attorney. It turns out the way I read it, any municipality can enact illegal annexations or probably anything else within the city and if it is kept quiet and no action is filed against it within two years; it is automatically beyond any action. In other words, the illegal annexations that were carried out by the City of Italy are now legal.

The Italy City Council will meet tonight, August 17, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall, 105 Main Street, Italy, Texas. During the regular session of this meeting it is slated that the council will discuss and consider necessary action regarding water system improvements and final payment to TTG Utilities, L.P. The Italy City Council accepted an offer from the Economic Development Corporation for June, July and August at its monthly meeting Monday evening. At a recent meeting, the EDC voted to give $1,000 per month for three months to the city for the reimbursement for supplies and support staff from the city.

Mayor Frank Jackson isn’t just the best paid mayor in Ellis County, his salary is 34 percent more than the combined compensation of nine nearby mayors. It’s 3 times higher than the Waxahachie Mayor and 65 times higher than the Ennis Mayor.
Everyone in the city is going to get a new roll away trash can for trash disposal, with the new DCI trash contract that the city decided on last night. The council also discussed the art class painting a mural on the old train trestle concrete, the building codes and permits, budget adjustments for sanitation contract, and action regarding the Substandard Building Ordinance.
On Monday, the Italy City Council turned the Mayor’s job into a paid position. This is not just unwise, it’s probably illegal and certainly unethical. It undermines the trust of the community and makes everyone feel that the good old boy system is alive and well in Italy, Texas.

The Italy City Council will have a called meeting on Monday, April 20, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. Some of the agenda items include city sanitation contracts, a Substandard Building Ordinance and painting the old train trestle concrete.
The Italy City Council voted Monday evening to pass an ordinance providing a salary for the mayor. The council approved the ordinance at their monthly meeting held in council chambers.
The City Council will be meeting Monday, April 13th at 6:30 p.m. with a full agenda. They will be covering building permits, bids for sanitation services, updating the building codes, leasing the water tower to Skybeam, action on the pet ordinance, application for the Cops Grant for the police department, review the audit report, review of the Substandard Building Ordinance, evaluation of the city secretary, and the Mayor’s salary.
The Italy City Council reinstated the Italy Park Board Monday evening at its monthly meeting held in council chambers. The council filled other vacancies on the Economic Development Board and the Planning and Zoning Board.

During this month’s regular City Council meeting, tonight at 6:30 p.m., the council will begin the meeting with an alternative energy solutions presentation. The upcoming general election (election of Mayor and three Council Seats) details will be discussed as well as requests for traffic signs and street repairs, some of which had been tabled from previous meetings.
