Juvenile Hearing: As explained in the handout at the first hearing, the juvenile and his attorney could waive subsequent detention hearings. In this case, the juvenile and his attorney have waived the hearing scheduled for tomorrow. The next hearing is scheduled for February 28 at 10:30 a.m. That hearing can also be waived. If the hearing is waived, the juvenile remains in detention. I will send something out the day before the hearing if the hearing is waived.

After cleaning out their medicine cabinets of expired and unused Prescription and Over-the-Counter medications, and dropping them off at one of the Prescription Drug Take Back Locations around the county for an environmentally safe and proper disposal.

WANTED: Leonard Allen Hennard aka “Leo” or “Lee”

On August 27, 2014, in Ellis County, Texas, Leonard Allen Hennard was on trial for two felony counts of family violence assault. While the jury was deliberating his guilt or innocence Hennard, who was on bond at the time, fled the courthouse and has not been seen since. If you see him you should ensure your own safety and immediately call 911.

Texting and Driving Ordinance adopted in Maypearl

Distracted driving is a serious problem and presents a serious threat to public safety, both to the people doing it and to other motorists on the road. With that in mind recently Mayor Pruitt, the City Council and the Maypearl Police Department joined forces in passing a City Ordinance banning the use of wireless devices for any purpose other than making a telephone call while operating a motor vehicle. Maypearl joins 25 other Cities in the D/FW metroplex that have already adopted such an ordinance.

Boil Water Notice: South Ellis County Water Supply Corp.

Due to a major water leak on Hooser Road and reduced water pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) has required our water system, South Ellis County Water Supply Corp. PWS #0 7000 43 to notify customers of the need to boil their water prior to consumption.

Wrap up on Ike Road fire in Ellis County

As of 6 p.m. the fire along Ike Road in Ellis County is 100 percent contained, with an estimated 250 acres burned.  While 20 homes were threatened, necessitating the temporary evacuation of 20 families, all the structures have been saved and families are being allowed back into the area.  All roads are now open to through traffic.

“No Refusal” Weekend to target DWI this 4th of July holiday

To combat the problem of intoxicated drivers on Texas roads a statewide No Refusal Program is underway this 4th of July holiday. As part of that program, the Ellis County & District Attorney’s Office and the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office, working with all Ellis County law enforcement agencies, are coordinating a local no refusal effort.

“No Refusal” Weekend to target DWI

Working with all law enforcement agencies throughout the County, the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office and the County and District Attorney’s Office will be coordinating a “No Refusal” weekend to target drunk driving on March 18, 19 and 20, 2011 from 8 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Bethlehem Revisited sends out the call

It was the time when Mary and Joseph rode into a small town on the back of a donkey to pay their taxes. The streets were filled with people, vendors at the marketplace, the tabernacle, camels, the candle maker, the tanner and so much more.

High water road closures

Pigg Road has been closed due to high water in Precinct 2 and they have put up barricades near Old Reagor Springs Road. Also, there is a report of high water on Broadhead Road close to the creek.

Passport Day in the USA Passport Fair

The Ellis County District Clerk’s office is hosting a Passport Fair in Waxahachie, Texas on Saturday, March 27, 2010 from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm to provide passport information to U.S. citizens and to accept passport applications.

Prescription Discount Program Available

The Ellis County/Coast2Coast prescription discount card offers significant savings for the uninsured and underinsured residents of Ellis County. Even residents with prescription coverage can use the card to save money on drugs that are not covered by their health plan – such as medications for family pets, for instance.

Prescription Discount Program Launched

Under an agreement with Financial Marketing Concepts, Inc. (FMC) approved by the Ellis County Commissioners’ Court last month, a new prescription discount program has been launched in Ellis County.

Severe storm program scheduled for March 2nd

The 2010 severe weather season is fast approaching. Five tornadoes were confirmed in Northeast Texas on January 20th, so in many ways, storm season is already here. County burn ban lifted

Following several days of heavy, soaking rains, Ellis County Commissioners convened in a specially-called meeting to rescind a ban on outdoor burning. The ban, declared on July 20, was originally set to expire in mid-October.

Flood Warning and County Road Closures

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a flood warning for the following areas Trinity River in Texas. Trinity River near Rosser affecting Ellis and Kaufman counties forecast flooding changed from MINOR to MODERATE severity for the following areas in Texas: Chambers Creek near Rice affecting Navarro County.

Burn ban approved

In a special-called meeting this morning, Ellis County Commissioners’ unanimously approved a 90-day burn ban at the recommendation of Fire Marshal’s Investigator Jim Pharr.

Last chance for free dump day until next fall

The last of the Ellis County free dump days for this spring will be held on Saturday, May 9. This clean-up event is available to all Ellis County residents to dispose of trash, furniture, mattresses, yard debris, tires, and car batteries.
