UT-Pan American Tubas to Perform in Italy…Texas

Ever heard a musical selection performed by just tubas and euphoniums (baby tubas, aka baritones)? No, we’re not talking about the oom-pahs often associated with the instrument in marches or circus music. We’re talking about a full-fledged piece of music by a well-known composer such as Dmitri Shostakovich, or the march master Karl King. Well, don’t give up on yourself just yet.

Sunday evening guitar lessons

Central Baptist Church offers free guitar lessons. Lessons began Sunday, April 12, 2015, for beginning and intermediate players, beginning age 8. Bring your guitar; some may be provided for class time. Meet at: 5 p.m., Sunday evenings, at The Cornerstone, 305 Main St., Italy.

Free concert scheduled at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church

Erskin Anavitarte will perform free on Saturday, March 1st, 5:00pm at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, 106 Harris Street, Italy. Erskin’s sound blends soulful tunes with a little rap, a dash of hip-hop and whole lot of worship of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Come and enjoy his rich tone and thoughtful lyrics.

Reid Jacinto becomes member of UT Longhorn Band

Reid Jacinto was a “big man on campus” at Italy High School, graduating as valedictorian for the class of 2013. He played sports, was in the National Honor Society, Student Council and was an important part of the Gladiator Regiment Band.

Youth Benefit Concert – Saturday, February 18

The youth department of the Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church is sponsoring a benefit concert at the Waxahachie Civic Center on Saturday, February 18 at 6:00pm. The event, titled “Transformed,” will feature DFW gospel recording artist, Kirisma Evans.  

Band ends impressive season at Area contest

The Italy High School Gladiator Regiment Band put on an impressive performance Saturday at the Class 2A Area D Marching Contest held in Belton. It was their best performance to date but not good enough for one particular judge who caused their otherwise, good scores, to drop to 12th place out of 24 bands.

Italy Gladiator Band summer schedule

The Italy Gladiator Regiment Band’s summer practices begin on Monday, August 1st. The band is gearing up for upcoming marching competitions and, of course, Friday nights!  Some of the practices are themed with fun events planned as a reward to all the hard work the band members will be putting in. Their practice schedule is below and also included in the community calendar.
