Both the Italy Gladiators and their JV squad played hard until the final buzzer but neither could take down the Wampus Cats on Itasca’s home court.

The Italy Lady Gladiator basketball team has earned a spot in the 2A basketball rankings in two polls for the week of January 19, 2015. The Lady Gladiators hold the #15 spot in the TGCA poll and are also ranked #21 in the TABC poll. The Lady Gladiators are currently 20-7 for the season and are in 1st place in district 12-2A with a 2-0 record.
This Saturday, January 17, Italy will be the host of a junior high basketball tournament. Both gyms will be buzzing with basketball action with the first tipoff at 9:00am and games scheduled well into the afternoon. Check out the tournament brackets attached.
This coming weekend will be packed with basketball games for our Italy Boys JV and Varsity squads. Our JV boys will travel to Ferris High School for their 9th grade/JV Tournament and our varsity boys will travel to Avalon for their 84th annual Basketball Tournament. Brackets for both tournaments are attached.

The Italy Gladiators land 8 basketball players onto the all-district list including senior TaMarcus Sheppard who earned Defensive MVP honors and Trevon Robertson who was named to the 1st team.
A tremendous start behind a 17-point first-period from senior Trevon Robertson gave the Italy Gladiators a shot but the favored Trenton Tigers survived Robertson’s early barrage of 3-pointers to outlast Italy for the Area championship.
The Italy ISD special olympic athletes received a heroes sendoff from the entire Italy High School student body and faculty early Wednesday morning as Team Italy prepared for their basketball competition at Cedar Hill High School.

The Italy Gladiator (varsity boys) away basketball game versus Dallas Gateway, that was originally scheduled for tomorrow night, has been moved up to tonight starting at 6:30 p.m. off Hampton Road in Dallas.
The Italy Neotribune has just received word that tonight’s varsity basketball match-up between the Italy boys and Arlington Summit has been cancelled. Inclement weather and icy road conditions have forced this cancellation. Once we hear if the game will be rescheduled, we will post it here.
Itasca defends home court to disrupt playoff seeding with the Lady Gladiators, ultimately, heading into a bi-district matchup against Era on Tuesday. The Gladiators fall short to the Wampus Cats by 1-point and now need to win Friday against Arlington Summit to keep from putting their expected playoff appearance at risk.
In the final home game for their seniors, the Italy Gladiators had little trouble with visiting Grand Prairie Advantage for an 82-45 win with each senior scoring points.
With much on the district line for both the Italy Gladiators and the Lady Gladiators, Gladiator Nation is being asked to trek over to Itasca Tuesday night to provide support. Go Italy!!

Tomorrow night is Basketball Senior Night inside Italy Coliseum with the Lady Gladiators being honored at 6:00 p.m. and the Gladiators being honored at 8:00 p.m. The JV Gladiator boys will be competing in a game starting at 4:00 p.m. over in Itasca.

Rio Vista wins both the JV game and varsity games over Italy but both Gladiator teams found an offensive rhythm late in the match ups.
The Gladiator and Lady Gladiator varsity basketball squads will travel to Hubbard High School on December 12th, 13th and 14th to participate in the Hubbard Invitational Basketball Tournament. Game one for the Lady G’s will be Thursday at 3:00pm against Waco Rappaport Academy. Game one for the Gladiators will be Thursday at 4:30pm, also against Rappaport.

Per Italy High School head boys basketball coach, Brandon Ganske, the basketball tournament in West has been cancelled. The varsity boys team was originally scheduled to participate in West today and tomorrow (December 6 and 7).
