In a decisive vote, the residents of Italy’s Independent School District voted 259-62 in favor of the 13 cent tax increase. The Italy City Council, the School Board of Trustees, Economic Development Corporation (EDC) and Italy Fire District held a joint meeting Monday evening, Oct. 6. Mark Stiles, president of the EDC, said all the entities in the community needed to work together to better the community. He said the city and school were lucky to have those on the council and school board. “You are doing a job nobody else wanted,” he pointed out.
Italy ISD offers services to gifted and talented students in a variety of formats. If you student is not currently identified as gifted and talented, and you believe that your child shows these tendencies, then you may nominate him/her for the screening process which is divided into three elements: standardized test of mental ability, teacher judgment based on observation and characteristics, and standardized achievement test scores (if available).
Monday, October 6, Italy’s Economic Development Corporation (EDC) will be meeting with Italy’s Independent School District board. An EDC presentation will be given by Mark Stiles, followed by a question and answer period for all attendees. This portion of the joint meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the Italy Municipal Building at 101 Main Street. All are welcome to attend.

With the hiring of the new technology director, Kevin Witte, Italy ISD boasts a new website. If you take a quick peek, you might think it’s kind of fancy and easily readable. "We are now using a Content Management System which allows us to easily input and control a variety of information and school news by multiple authors, managers and publishers.
Monday, September 22, the Italy ISD board will hold a called meeting. A public forum will be followed by administrative and financial reports. Two surplus vehicles will be discussed and insurance through the TASB will be up for approval. The last item of business on the agenda is personnel considerations. The meeting will be at 5 p.m. in High School Band Hall at 300 South College Street. All are welcome to attend.

The Italy School Board of Trustees is asking voters in the district to vote on a $0.13 tax rate increase. This increase will add an additional $481,500 to the budget for the 2008/2009 school year and each year thereafter until the State Legislature changes current law. The board, however, cannot raise the tax rate without the approval of voters.
