Wednesday, May 12, 2010, there will be a special called meeting of the Italy ISD Board of Trustees. Canvassing votes from the May 8th Election will be the lone agenda item for the called meeting.
The Italy School Board of Trustees hired three new personnel and realigned one employee at a called meeting Tuesday afternoon.

Today, Tuesday, May 4, 2010, there will be a special called meeting of the Italy ISD Board of Trustees. The agenda states that the meeting will be conducted primarily in executive session to consider personnel recommendations.
Earth Day is a day designed to inspire awareness and appreciation for the Earth’s environment. It was founded by U.S. Senator Gaylord Nelson as an environmental “teach-in” held on April 22, 1970. The second graders at Avalon ISD had fun celebrating Earth Day by planting a flower garden, a vegetable garden and getting closer to nature.
The Italy School Board of Directors approved a 2010-2011 school calendar at its monthly meeting held Monday evening.
On Monday, April 19 the Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus (300 College) and will begin at 7:00pm. Agenda items include staff resignations, the 2010-2011 school calendar, a budget amendment and the student athlete insurance carrier.
Monday evening Avalon ISD’s cafeteria was overflowing with hungry children and their parents eating hotdog dinners while anticipating the big Easter Egg Hunt. There also was a surprise guest, the Easter Bunny! He was ready to have his picture taken with all of the children.
The Italy School Board of Directors approved teacher contracts for 2010-2011 at its monthly meeting held Monday evening.
On Monday, March 22nd the Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus (300 College) and will begin at 7:00pm. Agenda items include teacher resignations, teacher contract recommendations and renewals and an acknowledgement of donated funds. The superintendent will also report regarding the football field renovations that are currently underway.
Italy ISD will dismiss classes early on Friday, March 5. The administration has decided to release all campuses at 1:30 in order to allow the Gladiator fans to make the trip to Abilene to support the basketball boys in their regional playoff game on Friday night.
Thursday afternoon around 1:00 p.m. Avalon ISD’s Physics department was bustling with fourth graders learning how to build a Jitter Bug. Avalon ISD has a new program called Eagle Science which involves elementary students learning from the upper class students.
Your 2009-10 Italy Gladiator Yearbook will be a treasured keepsake and a lasting memory of the school year at Italy High School. Order are being taken now thru April 3, 2010.
Due to bad weather, school will be closing early at 2:00pm today, Tuesday, February 23rd. It will resume at a later time on Wednesday: 10:00am for faculty and 10:30am for students
The Italy School Board of Trustees voted Monday evening to extend the administrative contracts to 2012 for Penny Mattson, director of special programs; Carolyn Maevers, Stafford Elementary principal; Tanya Parker, seventh through twelfth grade principal; and Craig Bales, athletic director.

Agenda items include monthly financial reports and a budget amendment as well as reviews and contract considerations for the Director of Special Programs, the Principals, and the Athletic Director.
Italy ISD students will not have class tomorrow, Friday, February 12 due to the winter weather. The boys basketball games against Itasca will be rescheduled.
The Italy School Board of Trustees extended Superintendent Jimmie Malone’s contract for an additional year Tuesday night at its monthly meeting. The vote was not unanimous, however, as Cheryl Owen and Curtis Riddle voted against extending the contract.

Agenda items include review and approval of the 2008-2009 financial audit, budget amendments and personnel considerations.
The Italy ISD Yearbook staff invites students and parents to submit photos for the yearbook. If you have got great photos of school and community events or you and your friends just having fun, we’d like to see them.

The next regular school board meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday, January 19, 2010.
Classes at both Italy ISD campuses will have a delayed start today due to the weather. Students are to report to class at 10:00am.
Italy Independent School District was awarded a matching grant of $25,000 from Oncor for increasing the efficiency of the lighting system at Italy Junior and Senior High Schools. The district received the grant through Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas School Matching Grant Program.
Governor Rick Perry has proclaimed January as School Board Recognition Month to help highlight the contributions of dedicated men and women who take the time to care about our local schools. The Italy ISD will join districts across the state to thank board members for voluntarily tackling the enormous job of governing local school districts.
“This is the second time we have received recognition for being one of the top schools in region 10 and we are just tickled pink,” explained David Del Bosque (Avalon ISD Superintendent)
Although the Italy School Board of Trustees took no action, they spent a great deal of time at their monthly meeting Tuesday night discussing the football field and the lack of drainage.
On Tuesday, December 15th the Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus and will begin at 7:15pm. Agenda items include monthly financial reports and a budget amendment. There is also an agenda item regarding the drainage problem with the football field.
The Italy School Board of Trustees approved replacing the roof and heating/air conditioning units at Stafford Elementary and George Scott gymnasiums at its monthly meeting Monday evening.
The Board of Trustees of the Italy ISD will have a meeting on Monday, November 16, 2009. Agenda items include the approval of three budget amendments, voting for Appraisal District Board and consideration of HVAC and roofing proposals.
Once again it is Red Ribbon Week. As tradition, both Italy ISD campuses are participating in the week long drug prevention campaign.
Charlotte Morgan, first grade teacher at Stafford Elementary, was recognized Monday evening as October Employee of the Month at the monthly meeting of the Italy School Board of Trustees.
Stafford Elementary will closed on Tuesday, October 20, 2009 due to water line break. Texas Department of Health Regulations and the Texas Education Agency will not allow schools to be in session without running water.
On Monday, October 19, 2009 the Board of Trustees of the Italy ISD will have a Board workshop followed by a regular monthly meeting. The workshop will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will be held in the superintendents office. The regular meeting will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be conducted in the band hall of the Italy High School Campus. After monitoring staff and student illness-related absenteeism, our school district will dismiss @ 1:30p.m. on both Thursday & Friday, October 15th and 16th.
Italy ISD offers comprehensive special education services to eligible students ages three through 21 years and to children from birth through 21 years who have a hearing or visual impairment.
Mark Jackson, Milford volunteer fire chief, and his volunteers presented fire safety tips for Milford elementary students Thursday.
Italy ISD offers services to gifted and talented students in a variety of formats. If your student is not currently identified as gifted and talented, and you believe that your child shows these tendencies, then you may nominate him/her for the screening process which is divided into three elements: standardized test of mental ability, teacher judgment based on observation and characteristics, and standardized achievement test scores (if available).
The Italy Independent School District is working with local, county, state and federal authorities to ensure that we are prepared for flu season this fall and winter. Be assured that Italy ISD is taking extra sanitation measures every day at every building on campus.
There was no one more excited or happier about getting a Monolithic Dome for Avalon ISD than David Del Bosque (superintendent). He really loves their dome. So it was very apt behavior when a storm was arriving last night to invite the community to sit out the storm in the Avalon Multipurpose Center.

When Jennifer Holley was attending college she had every intention of being a research scientist. Finding a great cure to an incurable disease really appealed to her. Upon further study of her career choice she decided it was not for her.
Ronola Shears was happily living and working in Dallas for CBI as assistant to the controller. It has always been her husband’s (Terry Shears) dream to move from the big city to a small town and purchase a house with a few acres of land. Two years ago this dream became his reality which meant Ronola had to commute from Avalon to Dallas. “It was a very hard year commuting back and forth from Avalon to Dallas. I wouldn’t get home until seven at night,” explained Ronola.
The Avalon Eagles are starting their third year in organized football. Avalon’s, JV and Varsity Six-Man Football squads scrimmaged the Bynum Bulldogs in Bynum this past Friday. The Eagles expect to have their best season since first putting on the shoulder pads back in 2005.
Milord ISD had a wonderful turn out for Meet the Teacher night Thursday evening. Marilee Byrne, (principal of Milford ISD) said, “We are glad that so many of our parents came. This is probably one of the better turnouts that we have had for Meet the Teacher Night in several years and we are so excited that our parents are interested. This way we can have more parent involvement and partnership with the parents in educating our students.”
Avalon ISD was ready for Meet the Teacher Night. Everyone was there Thursday evening. Students and parents were meeting teachers and learning where all the class rooms were located. Teachers were happy to meet their new students and ready to make this year a good one for all.
The Italy School Board of Trustees adopted a tax rate of $1.2410 per $100 valuation at its monthly meeting held Monday evening.
Marilee Byrne is the principal for Milford ISD. “One of our biggest accomplishments this year was we were able to make recognized in our accountability rating and we are very proud of that.”
The Board of Trustees of the Italy ISD will have a meeting on Monday, August 17, 2009. The meeting will begin with a budget workshop that will move into a budget hearing. The board will then reconvene into the regular monthly meeting. Agenda items for this meeting include the consideration of purchasing a 2010 School Bus and adoptions of resolutions setting the tax rates.
Margret Day, principal of Avalon ISD cannot wait for school to start. She was very impressed with what the students accomplished last year and cannot wait to see what they will achieve this year.
The Board of Trustees of the Italy ISD will have a called meeting on Monday, August 10, 2009. The board will conduct a budget workshop for the 2009-2010 school year operating budget. There will also be a presentation by Mr. Bill Herries of A+ Learning Systems.
