With the first six weeks of school complete and homecoming week in progress I wanted to pause and write a personal letter of thanks for the support Italy Independent School District receives from parents, grandparents, and community members.  Additionally we offer special thanks for the trust we are afforded in providing a safe and effective learning environment in which each student can reach their full potential.

Lee Joffre: New Man on the Scene

Image: AWARE (Arlington Will Award and Recognize Excellence) Award was received by IHS principal, Lee Joffre, in 2006. An award that is recognized by his peers and members of the community.

There’s a new sheriff in town and his name is Joffre. The new Italy High School principal came to us from the James Coble Middle School in Mansfield, in which he was the Assistant Principal. Teaching two years in 5th grade and then promoted to high school teaching math.

Letter to the Editor: Hammer & Sickle and Swastika

Perhaps the ISD should pay a little more attention to teaching history instead of band. The school board should have been shocked by the lack of knowledge displayed by the students and either the lack of knowledge or the misrepresentation by a teacher. And I am shocked by the lack of knowledge by the School Board.

Friday at David’s Supermarket you could see some very skilled shoppers making their way through the store. They were the CBI students from Italy High School and Avalon High School with Lee Joffre (Italy High School principal). They were busy hunting down various items on their shopping list.

Italy students gather to commemorate the tragedy of September 11, 2001

Image: Reid Jacinto playing the National Anthem at the Italy High School.

We all know the sadness that took place ten years ago on September 11th. We know that terrorists attacked our wonderful country, the United States of America. Four planes were hijacked in mid flight. Two of the planes were flown into two skyscrapers at the World Trade Center in New York City and caused them to catch fire and collapse. Another plane destroyed part of the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia. and the fourth plane crashed in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. In all, nearly three thousand people were killed in the September 11th terrorist attacks.

Kids helping kids

Everyone has been hearing about all the fires around our wonderful state of Texas. We have heard how the city of Bastrop has really been hit hard, lots of homes have been lost to the fires. And we sort of think only about the homes that have been lost and forget or don’t focus on the fact that most everything in the homes have been lost too. Like mementos, furniture, towels, clothing, all the basic necessities. Well, Avalon ISD decided to help the students in need of clothing at Bastrop ISD by collecting blue jeans.
