The Milford ISD band was playing patriotic music and two young men of the Tri-M Student Honor Guard were carrying the flags across the auditorium presenting the “posting of the colors.” It gave me goose bumps.

Charles (Charlie) Williams has a tough job ahead but said he welcomes the challenge. He hit the ground running last week when he took over as interim superintendent of the Italy ISD.
Avalon volleyball won its district for the second year in a row. They had a bye for the first round and their first playoff game was against Ranger in the Area round last Saturday. They came up short against Ranger but are learning a lot every year.
Italy ISD offers comprehensive special education services to eligible students ages three through 21 years and to children from birth through 21 years who have a hearing or visual impairment. Children from birth to age three with other disabilities will be referred to appropriate agencies for services.
Avalon High School volleyball is currently 8-0 in district (overall 15-11) and has already clinched the District title. Avalon has 2 district games left to play until the playoffs.
The Italy School Board of Trustees named Charlie Williams as interim superintendent at its board meeting Tuesday night. Williams is expected to begin Nov. 1.

Mr. Jimmie Malone has announced his retirement as Superintendent of Schools for the Italy Independent School District. An Agreement has been reached which allows Mr. Malone the ability to pursue other interests and permits the Board to pursue hiring another Superintendent. The Board and Mr. Malone have entered into the Agreement believing it is in their respective best interests and in the best interests of the District.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will hold a called meeting on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 to conduct interview(s) for an Interim Superintendent. The meeting is slated for 6:00pm and will be held in the Italy ISD Administration Building located at 300 S. College Street.
The Italy School Board of Trustees accepted a voluntary separation agreement and release from Jimmie Malone, superintendent, at a called meeting Tuesday evening.
David Del Bosque (Avalon ISD Superintendent) is a member of Texas Association of Rural Schools. Last week Del Bosque was in Lubbock, Texas attending one of the conferences the Association puts on throughout the state. He did a presentation called Texas Public School Funding, The Target Revenue System and the Effect on a small District-Avalon ISD. He expressed his concern for the rural schools and he talked about how legislators need to make education a priority. His presentation focused on school funding and why it needs to be changed.

Lawmakers must make education a priority this legislative session if they are to find a solution to the broken public school funding system in Texas. Avalon Independent School District adopted a resolution on September 23, 2010 in an effort to raise awareness of the growing financial crisis public school districts are facing. The resolution adoption encourages state legislators to work with local school board members and other stakeholders with an attitude of the highest priority.
The Italy School Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Rebecca Murphy at a called school board meeting Monday evening.

The Italy School Board of Trustees took no action after a marathon executive session Monday evening.

Per the agenda this meeting will be used as a boarding training session with a presentation titled “The Road to Exemplary” by Mabank ISD Superintendent, Dr. Russell Marshall. On Thursday, Italy ISD School Board members Jon Mathers, Curtis Riddle, Paul Cockerham and Italy ISD maintenance crewman Michael Chambers painted both endzones at Willis Field in preparation for the Homecoming game Friday night. More painting scheduled early today as well.
Six out of the eight cheerleaders for the Avalon Eagles received the honor as “All American” at cheerleading camp which entitles them to participate in a parade in Florida.

So many parents, so many students with lots and lots of school supplies could be seen at Avalon ISD during their Meet the Teacher Night. Just about every child had huge smiles and hugs for teachers.

ITALY — The Italy School Board of Trustees approved the hiring of three new teachers and accepted the resignation of two others at its monthly meeting held Monday evening.
On Monday, July 19 the Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus (300 College). At 5:30 the trustees will have a budget workshop and will adjourn at 7:00pm to reconvene into their regular monthly meeting.

On June 29, 2010 the Italy Independent School District was awarded an incentive check from Oncor’s Take A Load Off, Texas Educational Facilities Program (EFP). The district received $3,024.00 for upgrading the energy efficiency of the air conditioning systems at Stafford Elementary and Italy High School.
The Italy School Board of Trustees, in a split vote, voted to offer a contract to Tammy Wallis of Red Oak as elementary school principal.
The first couple weeks of April, Avalon elementary students planted a flower garden and a vegetable garden from start to finish in honor of Earth Day. They took the plants out of the little cartons, dug the holes and planted them. They did it all!

Preliminary TAKS testing results for Avalon ISD are, once again, projecting the AEIS rating from the Texas Education Agency for 2009-2010 to be that of a “Recognized” district. Official and final district and campus ratings will be published by TEA on Friday, July 30th. This will be the fifth consecutive year that Avalon ISD will have the distinction as a recognized district. The graduating class of 2011 achieved a 100% passing rate in all areas.
The Italy School Board heard preliminary TAKS results from Tanya Parker, high school principal, at its monthly meeting held Monday evening.
This meeting has been cancelled and will be rescheduled for next week.

The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus (300 College) and will begin at 7:00pm. Agenda items include consideration of surplus property bids and a budget amendment. Personnel recommendations will be considered during an executive session during the meeting.
Any new technology to help the school or any new program to help the students learn is what David Delbosque (Avalon ISD Superintendent) wants for Avalon ISD. When DelBosque did some investigating on wind turbines and found out how they can save money on the electric bill, of course he wanted the wind turbine for Avalon ISD.
The Italy School Board of Trustees spent almost four hours in executive session Monday evening at a special called meeting.
The Italy School Board wants to get rid of Superintendent Malone. According to multiple sources, the special meeting scheduled for Monday evening is to pressure Malone into resigning or — failing that — possibly firing him. The timing of this is suspect at best, it can ruin a man’s life, it would unalterably change the future of the district, and probably will end quality education in Italy.

Currently all phones and internet are down at both Italy ISD campuses. A technician is on the way. Parents are asked to please be patient while this issue is being resolved.
The monthly meeting of Italy School Board of Trustees meeting was filled with goodbyes, welcomes and changes at its meeting Monday evening. There were about three dozen parents, citizens, personnel and students in attendance.
On Monday, May 17 the Italy ISD Board of Trustees will have their regular monthly meeting. The meeting will be held in the Band Hall of the Italy High School campus (300 College) and will begin at 7:00pm. Agenda items include board members’ oath of office ceremony and election of officers. Also slated on the agenda is the consideration of purchasing new band uniforms.
