The Italy School Board of Trustees hired three teachers for the 2009-2010 school term Monday at a called council meeting.
Avalon ISD is having 2009-2010 registration for ALL students PreK-12 Tuesday and Wednesday, August 11 and 12 from 12:00-8:00 p.m. and on Thursday, August 13 from 9:00-3:00. Registration packets must be completed ON-SITE by parents/guardians. Avalon ISD has supplied a school supply list for your convenience.
The Board of Trustees of the Italy ISD will have a called meeting on Monday, August 3, 2009. The board will accept teacher resignations from Kelly Vernon and Jennifer Bell-Damours. Recommendations for the Spanish Teacher opening and the Special Education Teacher opening will be considered during Executive Session.

Avalon ISD announced the results of the district’s 2009 TAKS testing. According to school administration, based on preliminary results from all tests taken this school year and an evaluation of all subgroups, Avalon anticipates maintaining the state rating of “Recognized” for the fourth consecutive year.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will meet on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Agenda items include considering bids for surplus property as well as consider approval of the interlocal agreement with the City of Italy regarding the Park. During executive session the board will consider the applicants for the Junior High/High School Principal and Director of Special Programs positions.
The Italy School Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of Pam Luttrull, special education director, at a called meeting Tuesday evening.
Italy ISD will destroy special education records from the 2001-2002 school year for students who moved, graduated and/or exited the program during that school year. Parents who would like to have their students special education records retained should contact Kristi Dollar, Italy ISD Special Programs Secretary.

On Thursday, June 4th 2009, eager parents filed into Avalon’s Monolithic dome gym to see their sons and daughters graduate….from kindergarten! The beautiful young ladies and handsome young men were stunning in their formal attire and graduation caps as they entered the gym.
The Avalon Elementary Awards banquet was held on Tuesday in the Avalon Dome gym. After the students enjoyed a delicious complementary dinner -hot dogs, chips, cookies, and sweet tea, the awards banquet got started. Superintendent, Mr. David Del Bosque welcomed all excited students, smiling parents and enthusiastic teachers while introducing everyone to Miss Margaret Day, Avalon’s Elementary Principal.
Tuesday evening Milford ISD’s cafeteria was filled with proud parents, teachers and students. Everyone was gathered to honor and watch the newest members of the National Honor Society be inducted.

May 15th, 2009 Avalon Elementary students participated in Field Day. This event was organized by Tony Hernandez and David Morgan. Thank you both for your hard work on making this a great day for the kids. Volunteers from the Avalon National Junior Honor Society were a key part in making the day a success.
Ellis County Justice of the Peace Jackie Miller Jr. administered the oath of office to Marty Haight and Cheryl Owen, newly elected members of the Italy Independent School Board of Trustees, Monday evening. Owen won her second term in office and Haight replaces Ricky Boyd.
On May 14th, 2009 in the Multi-Purpose Center, Avalon Elementary proudly presented a Talent Show. All of the students and teachers worked very hard on their performances and did a wonderful job.
The Italy ISD Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, May 18, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Agenda items include special recognition of Mr. Ricky Boyd for his service as School Board Trustee, administering of the oath of office for newly elected school board members Cheryl Owen and Marty Haight and election of school board officers.
Monday evening at 6:30 p.m. Milford ISD presented their Spring Concert by all three of their bands. The cafeteria was filled with proud parents, grandparents and beautiful music.
On Tuesday, May 12, the Italy ISD School Board will have a called meeting. The meeting time is 5:00 p.m. The purpose of this meeting is to canvass votes from the May 9 School Board Trustee election. The meeting will be held in the Italy Administration Office at 300 S. College and is open to the public.
Speed Hamby has been employed by Italy ISD for three years this coming June as the director of maintenance and transportation. He is over the custodial and maintenance staff, orders supplies and keeps up with mowing the grounds and keeping them beautiful.

As you walked into Milford ISD’s gymnasium Thursday evening at 7:00 PM you could just sense the excitement in the air. The second grade through fifth grade music classes were all getting ready to sing in the World’s Largest Concert. The World’s Largest Concert is a sing along concert linking students around the world through music.
On March 6, 2009, the Avalon Eagles made history. It was the first time in 10 years, since Kris Marsall has been head coach, that the Eagles made it this far in playoffs. Though they didn’t win, Avalon played in the Region III Division Tournament at Stephen F. Austin University.
District 19-A Division II has released their All-District selections for the 2008-2009 boys basketball season. Congratulations to these young men for their athletic and academic excellence.
On March 12th Milford ISD is the place you want to be. Students in the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th grades will be performing songs in the gymnasium as part of this year’s “World’s Largest Concert” at 7:00 PM.
The Avalon Eagles won the Regional Quarterfinal game against their rival, the Milford Bulldogs! The final score was 47-41. Avalon will play Slocum High School at Stephen F. Austin Coliseum in Nacogdoches. The game will start at 5:00p.m. Friday, March 6. If the Eagles win that game, they will play again on Saturday, March 7 at 12:00p.m. Come support your Avalon Eagles!!!
The Avalon Eagles and Forestburg Longhorns battled Friday night in Springtown to keep their playoff dreams alive. After an exciting game, Avalon moves on as the Area Champions.
The Italy School Board approved professional contracts at a meeting held Thursday evening. They renewed contracts for an additional year for Pam Luttrull, director of special programs; Carolyn Maevers, Stafford Elementary principal; and Craig Bales, athletic director.
The IISD Board will meet Thursday, February 26 in the administration offices at 300 South College, Italy. Poll location, early voting preparation and the agreement of joint city and school board elections will be considered. There will be two, 2-year term board trustee positions up for election. Other items on the agenda include review of 2009-2010 school calendar and contract renewals for Director of Special Programs, Principal(s) and Athletic Director. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is invited to attend.
Due to the Italy Boys Basketball playoff game next Monday night the Italy ISD School Board meeting has been postponed. The meeting is now scheduled for Thursday, February 26, 7:00 p.m.
The Italy School Board of Directors extended the contract of Jimmie Malone, superintendent, for 42 months at a regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday evening. This extends his contract through June 30, 2012.

The Italy School Board of Trustees met Thursday night in a called meeting with a professional engineer concerning the lighting portion of the tax rate election.
Clint Husley, P.E. of Husley Engineering is scheduled to give a presentation before the Italy ISD Board of Trustees tonight. Following the presentation, the board will go into a private meeting the annual evaluation of the superintendent as well as discuss 2009’s performance goals and objectives. The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Italy Administration offices at the high school.

Friday at 11:30 AM many senior citizens were at Milford ISD enjoying a delicious Thanksgiving meal. They were all seated in the library with turkey and all the “fixins’ all set on beautifully decorated tables.
The Community Based Instruction (CBI) Class at Italy High School displayed their unselfishness at the Italy School Board of Trustee’s monthly meeting held Monday night. The CBI class, taught by Kelly Vernon, won the football signed by more than two dozen Dallas Cowboys at Italy’s Homecoming in October. The class donated the football to the school district at the meeting.
Kelly Vernon and students plan to give a special presentation at the Italy ISD regular school board meeting tonight. The board will also discuss what to do with the additional funds from the recent tax changes approved by the voters. Other business includes the standard reports. The planned executive session includes discussing the Business Manager vacancy and school property at 500 College Street. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. in the administration offices at the high school. Everyone is invited to attend.
